1) What are player and parent expectations?

Please read this parent letter for season information and summary of expectations, and visit the Player’s Corner for information on player and parent expectations, as well as the required medical form/sports physical and waivers that need to be agreed to during registration.

2) What gear does my player need to bring and what gear is supplied?

Players are required to have:

-Mouth Guard (always good to have extras)

YYF supplies: helmet, shoulder pads, practice jersey & pants. Returning players use their last year’s game jersey, new players receive a new game jersey.

3) When does football start?

*Registration with checked waivers and a completed, signed medical form must be completed/turned in prior to any player practicing.

PRACTICES/EQUIPMENT:

Juniors (7th/8th):

  • Equipment handout is scheduled the weekend before or right before the first conditioning practice
  • Conditioning/helmets only practices typically start the first week of August and practices with full gear start the next week but can vary year to year. Once you have registered your player the schedules will be posted in TeamSnap.

Mites (3rd/4th) & PeeWees (5th/6):

  • Equipment handout is scheduled right before the first practice.
  • Conditioning/helmets only practices typically start the second week of August and practices with full gear start the next week but can vary year to year. Once you have registered your player the schedules will be posted in TeamSnap.

The Pee Wee and Mite jamborees are usually held toward the end of August. For full details on the Jamborees, click here.

4) When and where is practice?

Practices are held at the Bog field upper football field. Typical practice times are as follows but may vary:

Mites practice M T Th 5-6:30
PeeWees practice M T F 5-6:30
Juniors practice M-F 5-7

5) What is the cost?

  • $200.00 which includes the use of all equipment your child will need except for cleats, cup, and navy-blue socks.
ALL REGISTRATIONS AND TEAM COMMUNICATIONS GO THROUGH TEAMSNAP
  • Please go to www.teamsnap.com or your app store in your phone and search for “TeamSnap”. Download the app to create an account and register. After registration you will be able to access your child’s team roster and schedule as they happen, as well as sync the team scheudle with your phone’s calendar. TeamSnap will also be used for communicating with coaches, team parents, other parents, getting updates to the schedule as well as practice changes.

6) What team is my child going to be on?

The Mites team includes children in grades 3 & 4, and older 2nd graders (players must be at least eight (8) years of age before November 22nd). Pee Wee team includes children from grades 5 & 6. The teams are divided into grade 3 & 4 (split into an A and B team) as well as grade 5 & 6 (split into an A and B team). All teams are drafted by the coaches with a balance of skill and talent. The A team tends to be the older players. The B team tends to be the younger players.

The Junior team includes children from grades 7 & 8. The teams are divided into an A and B team. The A team tends to be the 8th graders and the B team tends to be the 7th graders.

SMYFL currently does not have a weight limit cut off.

7) What days of the week are games?

Mites and Pee Wees typically play on Saturdays, Juniors on Sundays for home games; away games are dependent on the hosting team. Mite and Pee Wee teams (3/4 and 5/6) typically play their games back-to-back to make it easy on parents with children on both teams. The current game schedule can be found on the SMYFL website.

8) Where are games played?

The SMYFL website and TeamSnap will list directions to away fields. Home games are played at the Bog Rd upper football field.

9) When is registration?

Registration is typically open starting in April of each year. We send out an email to our contact list as well as post on social media & school communications. Please follow us on Facebook and Instagram to get updates.
